One of the thing’s I’ve been really hesitant to write about is the open source development of various platforms. I simply haven’t had the time to really get involved yet in between Second Life and Active World. Though the developments look increasingly interesting none the less. The rapid developments and problems these ‘open’ Second Life platforms have a lot of issues to overcome. One of these open source initiatives is the OpenSim initiative, working with the RealXTend client team.
Coming Wednesday (23/04/2008) this RealXTend team will organise an event in Second Life for all interested in the developments of their client and open sim progress. Though the timing is a little hard for me I’m going to try and see if they can answer some of my questions concerning the dangers and obstacles open source is yet to overcome.
